My approach as a counselor

As a counselor, I believe everyone deserves a safe space for reflection, processing, and healing. My approach is shaped by my Appalachian upbringing, where I learned the value of authenticity, hard work, and community connection. These roots influence how I practice today—with warmth, directness, and a deep respect for each person's unique journey.

I bring a blend of clinical expertise and genuine compassion to our work together. Having practiced in diverse settings—from inpatient psychiatry to telehealth, from schools to crisis stabilization—I've developed versatility in addressing a wide range of concerns. I specialize in helping people navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, significant life transitions, and women's health issues, with particular interest in maternal mental health and parent-child attachment.

What sets my approach apart is my commitment to meeting you exactly where you are. For those new to counseling, I take time to demystify the process and build comfort. For those facing complex challenges, I draw from evidence-based practices while honoring your lived experience. My background in diverse clinical environments allows me to adapt my approach to what works best for you.

I'm particularly passionate about creating an environment where people feel truly heard and understood. The therapeutic relationship we build becomes the foundation for meaningful change. Whether you're seeking short-term support during a difficult transition or longer-term work for deeper healing, I prioritize creating a collaborative partnership where your goals drive our work together.

My experience as a practice founder, clinical supervisor, and community leader enriches how I approach counseling. I believe in not just addressing symptoms but helping people connect with their values, strengths, and authentic selves—because healing happens when we feel empowered in our own stories.

My approach as a supervisor

My approach to clinical supervision is built on the belief that exceptional counselors develop through a blend of guided mentorship, reflective practice, and professional authenticity. As founder of Calmed Counseling & Consulting and a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor, I've crafted a supervision style that honors both the art and science of our profession. My goal is to help counselors get from "good" to "great".

I view supervision as a collaborative relationship where growth happens through trust and thoughtful challenge. Drawing from my diverse clinical background across multiple settings and populations, I help supervisees connect theory to practice while developing their unique therapeutic voice. Rather than imposing a single approach, I encourage clinicians to discover and refine the methods that align with their strengths and clinical interests.

My supervision emphasizes case conceptualization, ethical decision-making, and cultural responsiveness. We work together to examine therapeutic relationships, identify patterns, and develop effective treatment strategies. I create a supportive environment where difficult cases can be discussed openly, questions are welcomed, and professional growth is prioritized.

Having founded and grown a successful group practice, I integrate practical business knowledge into supervision when appropriate. This includes documentation best practices, insurance navigation, and private practice development—bridging the gap between clinical excellence and professional sustainability.

Most importantly, I believe that effective supervision nurtures both clinical competence and counselor wellbeing. I model the importance of self-awareness, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and practicing authentic self-care. My goal is to develop not just skilled clinicians, but confident, ethical professionals who will make meaningful contributions to our field while finding fulfillment in their work.

Outside of work

Beyond the counseling room, I find joy and balance in my life as a mother to my energetic four-year-old son, Carter, whose love for dinosaurs, non-stop conversation, and boundless activity keeps me grounded in the present moment.
