  Substance Use Disorders

There are 10 separate categories of drugs that make up substance-related disorders. These include: alcohol, caffeine, cannabis, hallucinogens, inhalants, opioids, sedatives, hypnotics, anxiolytics, stimulants, tobacco, and other unknown substances. Individuals who consume a drug from one of these categories (with the exception of caffeine for substance use disorders) over the legal amount and for a longer period of time than is allowed (which for both can be none in the case of illegal usage of substances) and develop a dependance on the drug can be diagnosed with a Substance Use Disorder. Symptoms can include severe social impairment, disregard of work or school, and withdrawal from social, occupational, family, or recreational activities due to the drug.
