My approach as a counselor

Rachel is a master’s-level social work intern with over a decade of experience supporting individuals and families through grief in hospice settings. She believes that while each client is the expert of their own life, everyone can benefit from compassionate support when navigating life’s most difficult moments. Rachel utilizes trauma-informed, strengths-based, and person-centered approaches in her work.

Rachel is currently completing her Master of Social Work degree and has prior clinical experience in an Intensive Outpatient Program, where she facilitated group therapy sessions. Her professional interests include working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, and life transitions. She is also passionate about supporting perinatal mothers in Southwest Virginia as they navigate the challenges of pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, and parenting.

Rachel is eager to continue learning and is committed to working collaboratively with clients to help them achieve their goals in a safe, supportive, and affirming environment. She practices under the clinical supervision of Kendra Smith and participates in peer supervision with the Calmed Counseling clinical team.
